This appeared on my email:
Where do I start? Oh okay, NAIA Terminal 1. It was not that bad. It was not good either. I really think that they should open Terminal 3 so that Terminal 1 could be renovated. While going to the boarding, I came to pass through this security check and they made me remove my belt. OMG, the pants I was wearing was loose so you just imagine how I uncomfortably walked through sensor.
I rode Cathay Pacific for Hong Kong at 11 am (April 8). I was disappointed with their food. It was just a sandwich with some drinks. PAL serves more! When I arrived in HK at 1 pm, I really thought that NAIA paled in comparison to Hong Kong's. The latter airport still amazed me. All of the shops there were posh so you would all know that I did not buy anything there. Imagine Godiva chocolate boxes for HK$1000++. I think it would have been indulgence if someone would buy those chocolates. Then, while waiting for boarding, I tried to take a shot at the airport interior since I was just using a film camera. Although I know all of you would dismiss as a relic of the past, I am still proud of that 20-year-old camera.
I rode Air Canada for Toronto at 3 pm. The aircraft was new and big since it was an Airbus. It had limited video-on-demand where you get to choose movies and TV shows to watch. Being my first time, I watched Lemony Snicket's, Spongebob Squarepants, Arrested Development, Walk on Water, etc. and slept in between. I was so glad that they served larger servings than Cathay Pacific. At one point, I could no longer finish the meal since it was just too plenty.
After 15 hours and 30 minutes on the air, I arrived at Toronto's Pearson International Airport (which is actually located in Mississauga where I live and only adjacent to Toronto). it was also a large airport although some parts of it were still under construction. It was just amazing to see many Filipinos on the plane. I never imagined that there were so many of us living in Canada.
Before claiming my baggage, I went through the Immigration Counter. The last time my family went there, it took so long since we were neophyte immigrants. We needed to prove and show all these papers. But now, it was swift. I just showed by PR card and she made me pass through quickly.
Papa and my brother Danrev met me at the airport. By the way, parking costs CDN$ 8.75 at the airport. Then we set home through all the expressways and clover leafs on the way. I saw SNOW melting (about one square meter) but it was already dirty so it was disappointing. When I arrived, I embraced my mother and all my siblings (who became fairer including Danrev). The house was a mess at that time since all the children were playing and my youngest brother JR was following me all the time.
We all slept late that night (still April 8). The following day, I accompanied my father to many stores to file my application for a summer job. I hope I get one so that I can save and more importantly to have a firsthand information on the life of a proletarian =). Although I am not a full-pledged bourgeois, I still have no experience of being in the working class.
We went to downtown Toronto on April 10 (Sunday). For the first time, I got to see the 1,800+ ft. CN Tower. It was the the most prominent and tallest structure in the city. Beside it was the Rogers Center or Skydome where a game was being held but we did not watch for the tickets were so expensive (when converted to pesos, Hehe). I then saw the Air Canada Centre where basketball games are usually held. We toured downtown Toronto for a while and it really felt like New York (although I have not been there) with those shops lining the not-so-wide streets. Cars were everywhere and I would definitely get confused when we had lived there. Afterwards, we home and went to mass together with my smaller siblings. |
